Basalt's Breeding Policy

Basalt breeds according to the rules that were set up by the Tamaskan Dog Register at the bare minimum. The most important for us is health and character, followed by the right appearance. All of are breeding dogs are DNA profiled as well as tested for Hip Dysplasia, Elbow Dysplasia and Degenerative Myelopathy as well as tested through Embark (160+ Health issues.)

**NOTICE**

The Tamaskan Dog breed did use several dogs with wolf content as foundation dogs, in 2015 the Tamaskan Dog Register again started allowing wolfdogs to apply as foundation dogs. Several new foundation dogs have content in the 40% range. Some Tamaskan generation one puppies from some of these new foundation dogs are coming back with up to 30% wolf content. WE ARE NOT APART OF THIS INCREASE IN CONTENT. Here at Basalt Tamaskan we believe we can continue to breed away the residual content and still get very nice wolfy looking dogs with the excellent temperments and health. All puppies we produce will be embarked to keep track of this data.

Kinship/Relation

The breeding between parent/offspring, full brother/sister, half brother/sister, grandparent/grandpup, uncle/niece, aunt/nephew, first cousins is not allowed. According to the experts is also recommended that an individual's COI should not exceed 6% counted from the 5 generation pedigree, which is about the same as breeding among cousins, and 9% counted from the 10 generations pedigree. A general first rule is: COI should be under 3% in a considered mating; AVK should be over 85%.

We do not only take into account pedigree calculated COI but also what Embark has found in terms of genetic COI.

** Anyone seeking to adopt a potential breeding quality bitch or stud from us will be required to follow these standards**
